Treheberbert 6 v Brynithel 0

Scorer : Gareth Roberts 2 penalties

Treherbert were successful at home in a hard fought encounter against a very good Brynithel side. Still finding their feet after the big step up to division 2 Treherbert are rising to the challenge. Their self belief is evident and on this showing they will compete and hold their own at this level.
The first half ended scoreless despite Treherbert having 80% of the game, the last pass just failing to go to hand. The Treherbert tackling was ferocious with hard hitting centre Ceri Skym forcing the Brynithel no6 to leave the field after a fair but hard tackle.
After many warnings for going consistently over the top the Brynithel no1 was sin binned.
Treherbert took advantage of the extra man and at the start of the second half outside half Gareth Roberts kicked a penalty. The Treherbert lineout and scrum went very well with Charles Stevenson, T.R.Lewis and Scott Evans controlling the set piece. Scrum half David Cambourne also adds another dimension with his creative play. Rhydian Slade-Jones making his Treherbert home debut at full back showed great confidence with good awareness for a 19 year old.
Brynithel conceded another penalty for killing the ball slotted over by Gareth Roberts which saw Treherbert step up a gear to try and find the try which would make the game safe. Terrific ball handling from the Treherbert forwards saw them carving great holes in the Brynithel defence, Scott Evans having his best game so far in a man of the match performance. All credit to Brynithel whose defence held firm. A harsh decision saw David Cambourne sin binned. This inspired Brynithel who only needed a converted try to win into throwing everything into attack pinning Treherbert in their own 22 for the last ten minutes of play. The drama played out to the last moment when the last pass of Brynithel’s attack was intercepted by prop Stuart Morgan who ran the ball into touch to the delight of the ever increasing band of Treherbert supporters.
Treherbert R.F.C. would like to wish Ian Griiths, Mark Shephard and Darren Thomas a speedy recovery from injury. Also congratulations to Chris John who has been called up to the Wales U16 squad.
